Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism May 12, 2018
Rasmussen SH, et al. - The relationship between antibiotic exposure in infancy and risk of childhood overweight and obesity were examined through a systematic review, including 13 studies, comprising a total of 527,504 children and meta-analyses including 8 studies. Researchers reported that antibiotic exposure in infancy was related to a slightly increased risk of childhood overweight and obesity, mainly if children were exposed to repeated treatments or treatment within the first 6 months of life, however, it was not clear whether this association was mediated via direct effects of antibiotics on the gut microbiota.
