Anti-Ro52 autoantibodies are associated with interstitial lung disease and more severe disease in patients with juvenile myositis
Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Apr 28, 2019
Sabbagh S, et al. - Investigators examined serum from 302 cases with juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM), 25 with juvenile polymyositis (JPM) and 44 with juvenile connective tissue disease–myositis overlap (JCTM) to determine the prevalence and clinical characteristics correlated with anti-Ro52 autoantibodies. They observed anti-Ro52 autoantibodies in 14% of patients with JDM, 12% with JPM and 18% with JCTM. Subjects with anti-aminoacyl tRNA synthetase (64%) and anti-MDA5 (31%) autoantibodies had more frequent anti-Ro52 autoantibodies. They noticed a correlation between anti-Ro52 autoantibodies and the presence of ILD (36% vs 4%) after controlling for the presence of myositis-specific autoantibodies. They reported more frequently chronic disease course with less remission. An increased number of medications was given to anti-Ro52 positive cases.
