Anthropometry, DXA, and leptin reflect subcutaneous but not visceral abdominal adipose tissue on MRI in 197 healthy adolescents

Tinggaard J, et al. - This trial entailed the contemplation of the anthropometry, serum adipokines, and DXA as markers of abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and visceral adipose tissue (VAT), with the aid of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). A higher SAT% was depicted in healthy girls than boys. In contrast, the VAT% appeared to be comparable, independently of puberty. Anthropometry and circulating leptin served as valid markers of SAT%. This was not the case for VAT%.
