Antero- vs retrograde nerve dissection in parotidectomy: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology May 18, 2018
Stankovic P, et al. - Authors conducted a systematic review comparing retrograde approach (RP) to the standard anterograde approach (AP) with respect to facial nerve palsy (FNP). Findings suggested a safety of the RP with no significant difference in FNP rates relative to AP and considering the shorter cut–suture times (CST) and the lesser volume of healthy tissue (VHT) resected in the RP, it was superior to the AP. The familiarity of the surgeons engaged in parotidectomy with both methods of dissection was suggested. Regarding postoperative hematoma (PH) and postoperative infection (PI), there were no differences.
