Anterior vs posterior approach for thoracic corpectomy: An analysis of risk factors, outcomes, and complications
World Neurosurgery May 26, 2018
Chiu RG, et al. - Adult patients undergoing anterior and posterior thoracic corpectomies were compared regarding risk factors and complications via reviewing the American College of Surgeons National Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP) database. Rates of reoperation, readmission, death, average length of stay, or medical complications were not significantly different between anterior and posterior thoracic corpectomy approaches. Both the approaches were noted to have relatively low-risk profiles. In situations where either strategy is reasonable, each can be selected at the surgeon's discretion with comparable risk. Risk factor for readmission included hypertension in the posterior approach and functional status in the posterior approach.
