Anterior revision hip arthroplasty is associated with higher wound complications but fewer dislocations compared to posterior revision hip surgery
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 22, 2020
Kurkis G, Chihab S, Farley KX, et al. - Researchers assumed that anterior method revision surgery may have elevated wound complications in comparison with posterior hip revisions and also report on secondary outcome metrics. Researchers enrolled a total of 99 direct anterior (DAA) and 191 PA revisions for analysis. They compared preoperative demographic characteristics, indication for revision, operative details, type of revision performed, components utilized, and postoperative complications between DAA and PA groups including multivariate analysis. The outcomes of this research indicated that revision DAA total hip replacement is correlated with an elevated risk of superficial wound complications, but may impart a reduced dislocation rate.
