Annuloplasty ring dehiscence after mitral valve repair: Incidence, localization and reoperation
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery Jan 24, 2020
Noack T, Kiefer P, Vivell N, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the incidence, localization and outcomes of mitral valve (MV) annuloplasty ring dehiscence with subsequent recurrent mitral regurgitation, an unusual but challenging clinical problem. They assessed a total of 3,478 patients who underwent isolated MV repair with ring annuloplasty at the Leipzig Heart Centre from 1996 to 2016. In 44%, 33% and 23% of patients, occurrences of ring dehiscence were acute (< 30 days), early (≤ 1 year) and late (> 1 year), respectively. Clinically, annuloplasty ring dehiscence is less commonly encountered. It is localized more frequently on the posterior annulus and transpires mostly acutely or early after MV repair. Such patients could safely undergo MV reoperation.
