Annexin A1 regulates EGFR activity and alters EGFR-containing tumour-derived exosomes in head and neck cancers
European Journal of Cancer Sep 21, 2018
Raulf N, et al. - Experts evaluated the functional contribution of Annexin A1 (ANXA1) (a direct oncogenic miR-196a target) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), given that microRNA miR-196a is highly overexpressed in HNSCC with poor prognosis. In head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), ANXA1 acts as a tumor suppressor. They noted its contribution in the regulating EGFR activity and exosomal phospho-EGFR release. There is also some chance that ANXA1 may be a strong prognostic biomarker. Results also indicated that, in head and neck cancer tissues, ANXA1 was downregulated both at the mRNA and protein level. Findings suggested the mediation of its anti-proliferative effects through the intracellular form of the protein.
