Ankylosing spondylitis causes high burden to patients and the healthcare system: Results from a German claims database analysis

Kruger K, et al. - Researchers conducted a non-interventional retrospectively matched cohort analysis using anonymized claims data from the German Statutory Health Insurance to compare healthcare resource use and costs between ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients and a matched sample from the general population without AS covered by the system. Data revealed that pharmaceuticals, like bDMARDs (prescribed in 10% of the patients) and hospitalizations and were the most important cost drivers.
