Angiographic follow-up of infants and children undergoing percutaneous carotid artery interventions
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jan 27, 2018
Ligon RA, et al. - This study reports follow-up outcomes after percutaneous carotid arterial (PCA) in infants and children with congenital heart disease. With a very low rate of mild stenosis and very few complications, PCA access appeared safe for pediatric interventional catheterization. Excellent follow-up outcomes were reported, with a carotid artery (CA) patency rate of 100%, even after multiple procedures. No association of mild CA stenosis with patient size or sheath introducer caliber was apparent. Recent literature reports safe acute results from percutaneous CA catheterization, longer-term outcomes remain unreported. Even at researchers' institution, an excellent patency rate of 100% was reported, even after multiple procedures on the same vessel. A low incidence of mild vessel stenosis could be appreciated on follow-up angiography.
