Aneurysmal bone cysts of the paranasal sinuses: The Mayo clinic experience and review of the literature
The Laryngoscope Mar 04, 2021
Smith AJ, Choby G, Van Gompel JJ, et al. - In this retrospective chart review involving 89 patients, researchers sought to illustrate the clinical behavior, treatment, and outcomes for patients with aneurysmal bone cysts of the paranasal sinuses (psABCs). Painless facial swelling was the most common presenting symptom and the most common site involved was the ethmoid sinuses. Findings suggested that painless swelling or nasal obstruction are common symptoms of psABCs. Orbital involvement is a poor prognostic predictor, with these patients having a higher risk of recurrence following treatment. Recurrence or disease progression is most likely to occur within 2 years of treatment. Patients should therefore be closely monitored during this time period.
