Anesthesia in children with osteogenesis imperfecta: Retrospective chart review of 83 patients and 205 anesthetics over 7 years

Rothschild L, et al. - Researchers assessed the rates of perioperative challenges among 83 osteogenesis imperfecta patients undergoing 205 surgeries (203 orthopedic surgeries and 2 mid-face reconstructive surgeries). They noted frequent anesthetic exposures among these patients, but anesthetic challenges in the series were uncommon. Patients with severe osteogenesis imperfecta Type III showed a greater likelihood of challenges, with significant blood loss and trouble placing intravenous catheters more frequent in the more severe types.
