Andrology of male-to-female transsexuals: Influence of cross-sex hormone therapy on testicular function
Journal of Andrology Sep 21, 2017
Schneider F, et al. - This research appraised the effect of cross-sex hormone therapy on testicular morphology. Due to the correlation between complete spermatogenesis with virilized serum hormone levels, these patients could be faced with challenges particularly after sex reassignment surgery in adjusting to the abruptly established hypogonadal state following removal of the testes. Hence, contraception ought to be discussed, and fertility preservation ought to be yielded during/prior to cross-sex hormone therapy. A requirement arose for more individualized and better-controlled cross-sex hormone therapy and post-therapeutic regimens. Evidence-based guidelines for attending clinicians were required for delivering the most appropriate care.
