Anatomical wiring and functional networking changes in the visual system following optic neuritis
JAMA Neurology Jan 06, 2018
Backner Y, et al. - In order to evaluate the relative weight of each connectivity modality to expedite visual recovery, physicians examined the anatomical and functional visual networks in patients with optic neuritis (ON). They found no effect of local optic nerve demyelinating damage on distant wiring. Nevertheless, even in the presence of an intact anatomical network, the functional modification could occur. These functional network changes could be part of the recovery process, however, further research was required to explain this process.
