Anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty used for glenohumeral osteoarthritis has higher survival rates than hemiarthroplasty: A Nordic registry-based study

Rasmussen JV, et al. - Herein, the experts sought to assess the 10-year survival rates of different shoulder arthroplasty types (hemiarthroplasty, stemmed hemiarthroplasty and anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty) used for glenohumeral osteoarthritis. The highest implant-survival rate was noted in anatomical total shoulder arthroplasty. Independent of the arthroplasty type, young patients had lower implant-survival rates. Data suggested that the treatment of young patients having end-stage osteoarthritis remained a challenge.
