Anatomical subsite modifies survival in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma: National Cancer Database study
Head & Neck Dec 07, 2019
Tham T, et al. - Since oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCC) can occur in either tonsillar related areas (TRA) or nontonsillar areas (nTRA)—but the prognostic variations between these sites were not clear—researchers used the National Cancer Database (NCDB) to examine these variations, controlling for other confounders including HPV status. They stratified the HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer cohort (n = 23,297) into two primary groups: TRA and nTRA. Overall, the OPSCC subsite was found to be an independent prognostic factor for survival upon multivariable cox regression analysis.
