Anatomical subsite modifies survival in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma: National Cancer Database study
Head & Neck Feb 01, 2020
Tham T, et al. - Given that oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCC) can occur in either tonsillar related areas (TRA) or nontonsillar areas (nTRA), however, the prognostic variations between these sites were not clear, researchers used the National Cancer Database to examine these variations, controlling for other confounders including human papillomavirus (HPV) status. Kaplan Meier survival analysis was stratified according to HPV status, and further analysis was carried out utilizing multivariable Cox regression. In total, 23,297 patients were involved in this investigation. The authors concluded that the OPSCC subsite was found to be an independent prognostic factor for survival in this large cohort.
