Anatomical and functional recovery kinetics after epiretinal membrane removal
Clinical Ophthalmology Jan 18, 2021
Vingopoulos F, Koulouri I, Miller JB, et al. - Researchers conducted the study for examining the nature of anatomical and functional recovery kinetics after epiretinal membrane (ERM) removal. Between 2012 and 2017, the records of 42 patients (45 eyes) with idiopathic ERM treated with pars plana vitrectomy and surgical peeling of the ERM performed by a single surgeon at Massachusetts Eye and Ear have been retrospectively reviewed. Following the central macular thickness (CMT) improvement, there is a logarithmic improvement in CMT and best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) after ERM peel with BCVA improvement. Findings suggested that early (less than 30 days) postoperative anatomical changes may be predictive of long-term anatomical outcomes.
