Anatomic factors affecting the use of ultrasound to predict vocal fold motion: A pilot study
American Journal of Otolaryngology Apr 20, 2018
Masood MM, et al. - Researchers ascertained the anatomic factors influencing the reliability of ultrasound to detect vocal fold motion. In order to assess vocal fold motion, patients underwent ultrasound evaluation and flexible laryngoscopy from August 2015 to March 2016. An assessment of length, accuracy, and clarity of ultrasound examination was conducted compared to flexible laryngoscopy, length, accuracy, and clarity of ultrasound examination. As per data, in 82% of randomly screened patients, ultrasound was able to detect vocal fold motion. Experts noted the association of ease of detection of vocal fold motion with the anterior thyroid angle.
