Analyzing the value of an educational program for psoriasis patients: A prospective controlled pilot study
BMC Public Health Nov 28, 2019
Bubak C, et al. - Whether an educational program imparting knowledge and self-expertise regarding psoriasis would be a valuable strategy to implement in psoriasis patients in general and dependent on age and disease duration, was determined in this current investigation. Researchers asked regular visit psoriasis-patients to opt to receive an additional educational program or not. Two questionnaires, one at study inclusion and one at the next regular visit or following the absolved educational program, were filled by 53 patients who took part. In the surveys, disease knowledge evaluation and numeric rating scales (0–10) for self-expertise concerning the disease, treatment adherence, and treatment satisfaction were included. The quality of life was assessed using the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). A higher gain in knowledge and self-expertise about the psoriatic disease was seen in patients who opted to take part in an educational program. Therefore, the long-term management of psoriasis might be positively influenced by the educational program.
