Analysis on risk factors of lung cancer complicated with pulmonary embolism

The Clinical Respiratory Journal Sep 22, 2020

Cui YQ, Tan XM, Liu B, et al. - Researchers undertook this retrospective cohort study to define the risk factors of lung cancer complicated by pulmonary embolism (PE). This analysis involved 40 lung cancer patients with PE (PE group) and 60 lung cancer patients without PE (non‐PE group). The PE group vs non‐PE group had higher white blood cell count, D‐dimer, and low‐density lipoprotein, while lower arterial partial pressure of oxygen was found in PE group vs non‐PE group. There was a statistical difference in carcinoembryonic antigen level between the two groups. According to findings, factors that may have a positive correlation with PE include high D‐dimer, chemotherapy, deep venous thrombosis, stage III to IV and adenocarcinoma. A poor prognosis in lung cancer patients is always predicted by PE.
