Analysis of the skin mycobiome in adult patients with atopic dermatitis
Experimental Dermatology Apr 11, 2018
Han SH, et al. - Authors comparatively evaluated the overall skin mycobiome between patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and healthy individuals in the Korean population. At genus and species levels in AD samples, the tendency of higher intra- and interpersonal taxonomic diversity were observed. Compared with healthy controls, non-Malassezia fungal diversity was also noticeable in the patient group. In all samples across both study groups, Malassezia globosa and Malassezia restricta were prevalent, and some Malassezia species, including Malassezia sloofiae and Malassezia dermatis, characterized AD. A new insight into the mycobiome of adult AD could be provided by this study, which contributed to building a systemic mycobiome database in AD.
