Analysis of the operative utilization of concurrent rhinoplasty and endoscopic sinus surgery
The Laryngoscope May 17, 2019
Kochhar A, et al. - Researchers performed a cross-sectional analysis among the 1,321 rhinoplasty (RP)+ functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) combination cases in order to quantify and analyze the concurrent performance of RP (with or without septoplasty) and FESS. Observations revealed more frequent involvement of fewer sinuses (compared with FESS alone) and less frequent involvement of revision rhinoplasty (compared with rhinoplasty alone) in cases undergoing RP + FESS. Hence selection of these cases could be considered for lower sinus disease burden and less complex rhinoplasty compared to standalone procedures. A reduction in operating room time could be achieved with procedures combining rhinoplasty and sinus surgery when compared to the hypothetical sum of two standalone procedures.
