Analysis of the etiology and treatment of chylothorax in 119 pediatric patients in a single clinical center
Journal of Pediatric Surgery Jun 09, 2018
Wu C, et al. - The etiology and treatment of 119 patients with chylothorax were summarized. Researchers noted idiopathic factors as the main causes of chylothorax in the neonate group but the cause may also include a history of unspecified birth trauma; the infant and older-than-1-year groups also displayed higher proportions of idiopathic factors, however, the latter 2 groups showed significantly increased iatrogenic factors. Thoracic drainage therapy was performed on all the patients, and fasting promoted the recovery of most children. In case fasting was ineffective, subsequent thoracic injections were observed to be effective. When the failure of the above two methods encountered, surgery was a method of choice, however, it was not always effective.
