Analysis of risk factors for unplanned reoperation following primary repair of gastrointestinal disorders in neonates

BMC Anesthesiology Apr 28, 2021

Cui Y, Cao R, Li J, et al. - In this single center, descriptive, retrospective study, researchers identified the factors associated with unplanned reoperations among neonates who had undergone primary repair of gastrointestinal disorders. Between July 2018 and September 2020, neonates who had primary gastrointestinal surgery underwent a retrospective chart review. A total of 296 neonates were involved in the analysis. The current research is the first to look at the risk factors for an unplanned reoperation in neonates undergoing primary gastrointestinal repair. The only risk factor for an unplanned reoperation is the length of operative time, and an unplanned reoperation will directly extend the postoperative hospital length-of-stay.
