Analysis of operating room efficiency between a hospital-owned ambulatory surgical center and hospital outpatient department
American Journal of Surgery May 02, 2019
Imran JB, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of operating room efficiency between their ambulatory surgery center (ASC) and hospital outpatient departments (HOP). They included 220 procedures (114 ASC, 106 HOP) and divided total case time into five components: ancillary time, procedure time, exit time, turnover time, and nonoperative time. Observations revealed higher efficiency of ASC outpatient procedures than those performed at the HOP. Findings emphasize the necessity for system evaluation of the HOP operating room efficiency.
