Analysis of novel cardiovascular biomarkers in patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH)
Heart, Lung, and Circulation Apr 01, 2019
Mirna M, et al. - In order to ensure timely diagnosis of patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH), researchers studied new cardiovascular biomarkers suggestive of pathobiological pathways that may be involved in PH related vascular and right ventricular remodeling. With this aim, they performed this single-center retrospective analysis including 88 patients suffering from PH and 74 controls. The biomarkers analyzed in the plasma samples of all participants were soluble suppression of tumorigenicity 2, heart type fatty acid binding protein, soluble urokinase plasminogen activator receptor, growth-differentiation factor-15 (sST2, H-FABP, suPAR and GDF-15). Irrespective of the subtype, sST2 was identified as a general biomarker of PH. Postcapillary PH was indicated by H-FABP, GDF-15 and suPAR, and could serve as potentially discriminate between pre- and postcapillary PH.
