Analysis of misses in imaging of head and neck pathology by attending neuroradiologists at a single tertiary academic medical centre
Clinical Radiology Jul 26, 2021
Ferguson A, Assadsangabi R, Chang J, et al. - The present study was performed to examine errors in head and neck (H&N) pathology made by attending neuroradiologists at a single tertiary-care centre. Researchers carried out searches of a neuroradiology quality assurance database of radiological errors for attending physician errors in H&N pathology between 2014 and 2020. A total of 283,248 CT and MRI neuroradiology examinations were interpreted (all indications) during the study period. The results of this study demonstrate that the majority of H&N misses were perceptual and were detected on examinations not performed for a H&N indication. As per the findings, clearly malignant or potentially malignant masses represented half of all misses.
