Analysis of medication patterns for pediatric asthma patients in emergency department: Does the sequence placement of glucocorticoids administration matter?
Journal of Asthma Oct 25, 2019
Jang H, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers determined the distribution of asthma medication sequences in one ED and evaluated how treatment outcomes (length-of-stay and ED disposition) could be influenced by the sequence placement of glucocorticoids administration. From an academic urban children’s hospital ED, they acquired five-year electronic health record data. To determine the most commonly used asthma medication sequences, they used an exact string-matching algorithm and clustered the sequences of medication administration. Findings revealed improved outcomes in relation to earlier sequence placement of glucocorticoids administration, as observed via an analysis of medication sequence patterns for the ED encounter of pediatric asthma.
