Analysis of age-related differences of risk factors and comorbidities in laryngotracheal stenosis patients
Indian Journal of Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery May 10, 2018
Asik MB, et al. - Experts evaluated if there was variability in the risk factors in laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) depending on age. They also determined which risk factors and comorbidities were more important in the development of laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) at older or younger ages. Between the groups, there was a statistically significant difference for all the risk factors except a previous tracheotomy. Age-related variability could be demonstrated by the risk factors and comorbidities thought to be involved in the development of LTS. Hence, it was important to take precautions before the development of LTS, in patients over 40 years of age with comorbidities (GERD, hypertension, DM2, and pulmonary infection). For all patients, regardless of age, prolonged intubation and tracheotomy history were the main risk factors.
