Analgesic efficacy of ultrasound guided paravertebral block in percutaneous nephrolithotomy patients: A randomized controlled clinical study
BMC Anesthesiology Oct 05, 2020
Yaman F, et al. - To determine the efficacy of ultrasound-guided thoracic paravertebral block (PVB) in patients receiving percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCN), researchers undertook this study with 44 patients (aged between 18 and 65 years) scheduled for PCN. The participants were randomized to either the anaesthetic intervention group (PVB) [including 22 patients who were injected at level T8T9 with 20 mL 0.25% bupivacaine as a single administration] or to the control group C [involving 22 persons, the intervention was not performed]. Findings showed that effective analgesia in PNL was conferred by ultrasound-guided PVB using bupivacaine and an in-plane technique. It afforded high scores on patient satisfaction and was shown to be related to minimal complications.
