Analgesic efficacy of ultrasound-guided interscalene block vs supraclavicular block for ambulatory arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: A randomised noninferiority study
European Journal of Anaesthesiology Sep 13, 2019
Cabaton J, et al. - Whether analgesia provided by supraclavicular block (SCB) is noninferior to that offered by interscalene block (ISB) in patients undergoing ambulatory arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) was investigated in this randomised, single-blind, noninferiority study conducted in France. Using randomization (1 : 1), researchers allocated participants to receive a single injection SCB or ISB, as well as general anaesthesia. The noninferiority of SCB was confirmed if the difference between mean morphine consumption in the SCB vs ISB group was less than 30 mg. In patients undergoing ambulatory ARCR, the efficacy displayed by SCB for providing pain relief after surgery, based on oral morphine consumption, was found to be equal to that of ISB.
