Analgesic efficacy and safety of erector spinae plane block in breast cancer surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Anesthesiology Mar 06, 2021
Zhang Y, Liu T, Zhou Y, et al. - Researchers aimed at verifying the clinical analgesic efficacy and safety of erector spinae plane block (ESPB) in patients undergoing breast cancer surgery via performing a meta-analysis. Searching PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library and ClinicalTrials.gov, they identified 11 randomized controlled trials comparing ESPB with general anesthesia (GA) in breast cancer surgery for inclusion in this study; these trials involved 679 patients. Findings support the effectiveness of ultrasound-guided ESPB in reducing morphine consumption and pain intensity within the first 24 h after breast cancer surgery, when compared with GA alone.
