Anal human papillomavirus infections in young unvaccinated men who have sex with men attending a sexual health clinic for HPV vaccination in Melbourne, Australia
Vaccine Oct 03, 2019
Chow EPF, Danielewski JA, Murray GL, et al. - In this study, researchers investigated the prevalence of anal human papillomavirus (HPV) among 496 men who have sex with men (MSM) aged 20–26 years prior to when they get the first dose of the HPV vaccine at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre, Australia. More than half had any high-risk HPV genotypes identified in the anus. At least one quadrivalent HPV vaccine-preventable genotype (6, 11, 16 or 18) was noticed in almost half (43.1%) of the generation and one-fifth (21.0%) had HPV 16 identified in the anus. These verdicts propose that to shield against high-risk HPV genotypes correlated with anal cancer, as well as low-risk HPV genotypes, a targeted catch-up HPV vaccination program for MSM is still advantageous.
