Anal cancer risk among people with HIV infection in the United States
Journal of Clinical Oncology Jan 10, 2018
Colón-López V, et al. - Data from HIV and cancer registries in nine US areas (1996 to 2012) was utilized to calculate standardized incidence ratios to compare anal cancer incidence in people with HIV infection with the general population. As per findings, people with HIV infection had a significantly higher incidence of anal cancer, this was particularly evident among men who have sex with men (MSM), older individuals, and people with AIDS. Researchers noticed a recent decline that might reflect delayed benefits of HIV treatment. Screening could be beneficial among groups with high cumulative incidence of anal cancer.
