An updated systematic review and meta-analysis of outcomes following eversion vs conventional carotid endarterectomy in randomised controlled trials and observational studies
European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery | Feb 09, 2018
Paraskevas KI, et al. - Researchers perform an updated meta-analysis to establish whether eversion (eCEA) carotid endarterectomy confer significant benefit over conventional (cCEA) carotid endarterectomy. Randomised controlled trial (RCT) and observational study (OS) data, in combination, suggest that eCEA is superior to cCEA regarding peri-operative outcomes (stroke, death, death/stroke) and late restenosis, but is similar to patched CEA in both early and late outcomes. This updated meta-analysis suggest that cCEA and eCEA are similar in terms of early and late outcomes, provided the arteriotomy is patched.
