An ordinal model to predict the risk of symptomatic liver failure in patients with cirrhosis undergoing hepatectomy
Journal of Hepatology Jun 17, 2019
Prodeau M, et al. - In patients with cirrhosis, researchers sought to construct prognostic models of symptomatic post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). The main indication was hepatocellular carcinoma (88%) of the 343 patients included. In 112 patients, laparoscopic liver resection has been conducted. Data reported that 3-month mortality was 5.25%. The preoperative model should be helpful at the selection level by anticipating correctly the risk of symptomatic PHLF in patients with cirrhosis. At the end of the surgery, prediction can be adjusted by also considering blood loss and laparotomy conversion in a post-operative model, which may influence postoperative management.
