An investigation of potential neural correlates of intrusive retrieval of distressing memories

Journal of Behavior Therapy and Experimental Psychiatry Sep 11, 2017

Battaglini E, et al. – In this study, the clinicians aimed to identify neural circuits associated with the retrieval of intrusive memories using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Although no differences in neural activations were seen between intrusive and non-intrusive responses, the observation of precuneus involvement is consistent with models that propose that intrusive memories are affected by the extent to which there is a contextual integration of the relevant memories.
