An international multicenter retrospective analysis of patients with extranodal marginal zone lymphoma and histologically confirmed central nervous system and dural involvement
Cancer Medicine Dec 13, 2019
Sunderland AJ, Steiner RE, Al Zahrani M, et al. - In this multicenter retrospective study, researchers sought to describe clinical features, treatment, and prognosis of marginal zone lymphoma of the central nervous system (CNS MZL). Twenty-six individuals [median age was 59 years (range 26-78)] have been identified: half with primary and half with secondary CNS involvement. Dura (50%) was the most common disease site. Compared with primary CNS MZL, MZL with secondary CNS involvement has an older age, less female predominance, more variable CNS localization and inferior prognosis. Primary MZL patients have favorable outcomes with radiotherapy. In addition, it seems that patients with dural location of MZL have a better result. The optimal treatment of secondary CNS MZL is unclear, although it appears reasonable to use CNS penetrating chemotherapeutics.
