An educational intervention for acute dizziness care: A randomized, vignette-based study
Otology & Neurotology Aug 22, 2019
Meurer WJ, Johnson P, Brown D, et al. - This randomized, controlled, educational intervention study was undertaken to determine if an educational intervention improved emergency department (ED) provider performance on hypothetical stroke and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) cases delivered by vignette as an early method for assessing a BPPV-focused educational intervention. Forty-eight emergency physicians were recruited in this analysis. Investigators found that educational intervention increased the performance of providers in dizziness vignettes, including the use of Dix-Hallpike Test/canalith repositioning maneuver more frequently. These findings indicate planned behavior that has been positively influenced by the intervention. Future research is required in clinical practice to implement and assess this intervention.
