An economic evaluation of tranexamic acid to prevent postpartum haemorrhage in women with vaginal delivery: the randomised controlled traap trial
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Sep 07, 2020
Durand‐Zaleski I, Deneux‐Tharaux C, Seco A, et al. - Researchers performed a trial‐based economic evaluation in order to determine the cost‐effectiveness of using tranexamic acid (TXA) to prevent postpartum haemorrhage. They determined direct medical costs for women enrolled in the TRAAP randomised controlled trial comparing TXA vs placebo in women with vaginal delivery. The TRAAP trial involved enrollment of 4,079 women; of these women, 3,836 (94.0%) had available data necessary to calculate costs. The TXA and control groups had the average total costs of €2278 ± 388 and €2288 ± 409 per woman, respectively. Observations support TXA use in these women, as reduction in both bleeding events and cost may occur three out of four times.
