An audiological evaluation of syndromic and non-syndromic craniosynostosis in pre-school going children
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Mar 22, 2018
Goh LC, et al. - The audiological outcome and early screening of pre-school going children with craniosynostosis were studied under follow-up at the University of Malaya Medical Center(UMMC), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over a 10 year period. Compared to children with non-syndromic craniosynostosis, children who were born with syndromic craniosynostosis were found to have more odds of suffering from a hearing loss, including that of a severe to profound degree. Results demonstrated that it was more likely to detect the hearing loss at a later age when the first hearing test was done and this could be an irreversible sensorineural hearing loss. In children with syndromic craniosynostosis, the need for early audiological screening and follow up was suggested.
