An analysis of unplanned return to the operating room following deceased donor kidney transplantation
American Journal of Surgery Jan 28, 2019
Watson AM, et al. - Researchers sought to characterize unplanned return to the operating room (OR) following kidney transplantation (KT) via evaluating all patients undergoing KT at a single center from 1/2015 through 11/2017. Following a kidney transplant, unplanned return to the operating room has an incidence of 7.1%. A relatively common encounter of general surgery emergencies, such as diverticulitis and cholecystitis, account for 30% of all reoperations. They observed an infrequent correlation of all reoperations following kidney transplant with the technical conduct of the kidney transplant operation.
