An analysis of gender differences in treatment and outcome of periampullary tumors in Sweden – A national cohort study
HPB Dec 18, 2020
Williamsson C, Rystedt J, Andersson B., et al. - Researchers here examined if any variance exists in treatment of periampullary tumors and outcome after pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) by gender from national multicenter perspective. From the Swedish National Registry for Pancreatic and Periampullary Cancer, they included data of a total of 5,677 patients, including 2,906 (51%) men and 2,771 (49%) women. Findings could not establish gender bias, even though surgery was offered to fewer women. Despite being older, women tolerate surgery well and could be offered PD at a higher age.
