Ambulatory vs home blood pressure monitoring: Frequency and determinants of blood pressure difference and diagnostic disagreement
Journal of Hypertension Sep 08, 2019
Ntineri A, Niiranen TJ, McManus RJ, et al. - Since out-of-office blood pressure assessment using ambulatory (ABP) or home (HBP) monitoring is currently recommended for hypertension management, researchers assessed the frequency and determinants of diagnostic disagreement between ABP and HBP measurements. From Greece, Finland and the United Kingdom, they obtained and analyzed cross-sectional data from 1,971 participants (mean age 53.8 ± 11.4 years, 52.6% men, 32% treated). Findings revealed considerable diagnostic agreement between HBP and ABP. In most patients, these methods were found to be interchangeable for clinical decisions. However, an appreciable minority showed considerable disagreement between the two methods; this was most likely attributable to methodological and patient-related factors.
