Ambulatory blood pressure abnormalities in children with migraine
Pediatric Nephrology Sep 28, 2020
Yılmaz S, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to assess the presence of hypertension in children with migraine by performing ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). Between January 2015 and March 2016, 37 children diagnosed with migraine and 30 healthy controls were assessed. Demographic data, clinical and laboratory features, and physical examination findings have been recorded for both groups. Nighttime mean arterial blood pressure, nighttime diastolic blood pressure, and non-dipping trends in children with migraine were higher than those in the control group. Such findings show that in almost half of patients with migraine, ambulatory blood pressure abnormalities could be present. Therefore, even if the office blood pressure measurements of children diagnosed with migraine are normal, the authors recommend that ABPM should be performed.
