Ambulatory and stationary healthcare use in survivors of ARDS during the first year after discharge from ICU: Findings from the DACAPO cohort
Annals of Intensive Care Jun 21, 2019
Brandstetter S, et al. – Via assessing a sample of acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) survivors in Germany (multicenter DACAPO cohort), researchers determined the magnitude of ambulatory and stationary healthcare use, and examined predictors of stationary healthcare use. Following discharge from the intensive care unit (ICU), 1-year data were provided by 396 survivors of ARDS. An extensive amount of healthcare use, particularly stationary healthcare use, was reported in most of the patients during the first year post-ARDS. A significant increase was observed in the duration of hospitalization by the length of the initial ICU stay. These findings highlighted the substantial morbidity of patients post-ARDS.
