Amblyopia risk factors in newborns with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction
Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus Jan 31, 2020
Vagge A, et al. - Researchers examined newborns with congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction (CNLDO) and age-matched healthy control newborns for the presence of amblyopia risk factors. In this retrospective case-control study, they identified amblyopia risk factors in accordance with the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Vision Screening Committee recommendations. Eighteen patients (11.9%) with CNLDO and 19 control newborns (8.7%) exhibited amblyopia risk factors. The analysis suggest no association of CNLDO with amblyopia risk factors in newborns. They recommend monitoring all patients with CNLDO for amblyopia as anisometropia might develop later on.
