Alternative techniques in cochlear implant surgery: Subtotal petrosectomy
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Nov 08, 2019
Hernández S, et al. - In this retrospective descriptive study, researchers reported and analyzed three cases of subtotal petrosectomy in cochlear implant surgery at San Ignacio University Hospital (Bogotá, Colombia), and established the indications, surgical technique and complications encountered. They analyzed a series of three clinical cases of subtotal petrosectomy as a surgical technique for cochlear implant surgery at the institution from the year 2004 to 2019. Findings suggested that subtotal petrosectomy is a surgical option to cochlear implant surgery that is not associated with serious complications in patients with chronic ear pathology, wide cavities or cochlear implant extrusion.
