Altered neural processing of reward and punishment in adolescents with major depressive disorder
Journal of Affective Disorders Feb 09, 2018
Landes T, et al. - Researchers performed an event-related potential study to investigate neurophysiological mechanisms of anticipation and consumption of reward and punishment in adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) in one comprehensive paradigm. They noticed distinctly altered reward anticipation and consumption in adolescent MDD. Disturbed attention allocation to reward cues was suggested by delayed reward anticipation. Accelerated reward consumption indicated high salience of reward once obtained. In MDD, exposure to performance-related rewards seemed to be a promising approach.
